I like the English class on Thursday. The teacher on this day is Duncun.
He comes from England. He is a very good teacher,
because he always asks everyone some questions and pays attention to listen to what you answer.
Today we talked about Chinese New Year on class
Chinese New Year is also called Lunar New Year.
Chinese have a lot of traditional things to celebrate it.
On Chinese New Year’s Eve, we will have a family reunion on Father’s side and take a feast together.
Every dish has its symbolic meaning.
For example, Chinese will eat fish.
This is because fish has the same sound as surplus in Chinese.
There is a taboo for eating fish during Chinese New Year.
We can’t eat it over and leave some to mean that we will have surplus every year.
And some Chinese will eat hair weed, because it also has the same sound of make a lot of money in Chinese.
Pineapples, Oranges and Wan Wan cocky mean people will get a good luck in this year.
At this night, we won’t sleep early,
because the later we go to bed and the longer our parents live.
So people play cards or something to kill time.
On the second day of Chinese New Year,
we will have a reunion with the family members on Mother’s side.
There is also a taboo about this.
That is people can’t have a reunion with the family members on Mother’s side on the first day of Chinese New Year.
During this period of time, children or young people will get red envelopes from the elders.
And they also have a flock of activities to do, like playing fireworks and so on.
However, I feel the atmosphere of celebrating Chinese New Year is fewer and fewer in Taiwan.
